Hebbe Falls Trek, Kemmanagundi
Hebbe Falls Trek

Hebbe Falls is a beautiful gem that hides inside the Bhadra Tiger reserve in Kemmanagundi hills, Chikmagalur. Falls are set amidst the dense forest and plenty of coffee plantation makes it gain a picturesque edge. Hebbe Falls is formed by freshwater springs that exist on top of mountains. You can spot water cascades down through slippery black rocks from a height of 551 feet.

In fact, it is a 2 tier waterfall, the bigger one is called Doddahebbe falls and the smaller one is called Chikkahebbe falls. Not to mention, the beautiful pool below the falls where you can swim all day long. Above all, the water here is believed to be infused with medicinal herbs, hence good for skin, so never miss an opportunity to take a dip

Indeed, this place also acted as a summer retreat center for the Wodeyar Rulers majorly Krishnaraja Wodeyar 𐌠𐌞.

Hebbe Falls Trekking

You need to trek through steep narrow paths inside the forest for 10 km to reach the Hebbe falls. Trek starts from the Forest check post near the Karnataka Horticulture Department guest house. As you make your way into the forest you will come across a tiny pond, 3 beautiful flowing streams, and Chowdeshwari Mahasakthi temple. Furthermore, you can hear the sound of water splashing the ground as you are inching towards the falls.

Whereas, if you are an expert and love trekking more then you can start from Tarikere which is 35 km. This trek will take you an entire day to complete and you will be mostly walking through forests and the probability of sighting wildlife i9s more. Usually, you can spot mighty tuskers, spotted deers, wild boar, and a few other exotic wildlife.

If you don’t fancy hiking then you can opt for adventurous and bumpy Jeep Rides through muddy tracks and coffee estates from the forest checkpoint. Usually, they will charge around  Rs 400/ head and it is an hour ride. But be prepared to take a few steps in the last phase from Khoday’s estate as the jeep wouldn’t go beyond this point.

Best Time To Visit Hebbe Falls

Like every other place, this falls is great to visit during the winter season, i.e from October to February. But if you want to witness the falls in full flow with mist surrounding, then head to this place in Peak monsoon. Of course, trekking is a  bit risky in monsoons as there will be leeches, the path will be slippery, and dangerous to swim as water flows full-fledged, but believe us the view will be extremely fulfilling.
